Pilot park for urban greening

Helpman Noord - Groningen

The municipality of Groningen is working on the development of the Helpman-Noord area. Part of the planning area is the terrain of Terra training centre; the green school of the Northern Netherlands. The area has a rich history of which many elements are still present above and below ground. At the same time, Terra is developing education towards a more hybrid form that moves towards practice and business.

Groningen strives for an integrated vision of greenery and traffic for the Helpman-Noord area that is better anchored in its surroundings. Terra falls within the park zone 'Zuiderplantsoen' or 'Liniepark', which already partly has a green layout. There is an ambition level in the areas of housing, spatial quality, quality of life and mobility. Together with De Plekkenmakers we translated the ambition for the planning area, which was formulated and visualized, into a stimulating vision in which the spatial issue and the educational issue come together in a pilot park for urban greening.
